The brand new Pro Padel League launches a new form of padel in North America with seven teams of top players from around the world.
The first games of the season will be played in Florida from May 13th to June 4th. Each of the seven teams will consist of at least 2 male and 2 female members. All teams will compete every Saturday and Sunday during the regular season. The regular season will be followed by the final PPL Cup championship.
The aim of the PPL is to increase the presence of padel in North America and spread the excitement to new players and fans across the continent. President of the United States Padel Association Marcos del Pilar believes the PPL will create a great opportunity for fans, players, coaches, brands and sponsors.
The following teams will compete in the first season:
- Los Angeles BEAT
- Arkansas Matrix
- Las Vegas SMASH
- Miami Padel Club
- San Diego Stingrays
- Cancun Waves Padel Team
- Toronto Maple Leafs
The teams consist of some of the world's best players, including Spaniard Marta Marrero, currently ranked 15th on the World Padel Tour, and padel legend Sebastian Nerone, former world number one and five-time world champion.
The PPL has also managed to attract a number of sports stars to its ownership and advisory team, with Tommy Haas, co-owner of the San Diego Stingrays, and Argentine tennis legend Juan Martin del Potro appointed as a strategic advisor to the Miami Padel Club.
The PPL has made arrangements to show the highlights of the championship on North American television.
